Explore the Region’s newest festival : Winter Motherland full of family friendly fun, presented by Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center ‘A Home For Black Excellence’. Winter Motherland is the first of its kind in the region, inviting everyone to gather together for a season-long holiday festival that’s fun, affordable, and convenient, full of programs celebrating the African Diaspora Holiday traditions: Christmas, Kwanzaa and Junkanoo.

Why does Winter Motherland matter? Because we as Black people and all people of color have a common root in the Motherland of Africa. Christmas, Kwanzaa and Junkanoo are three specific holidays with each having a unique development path within the African Diaspora. They symbolize the special ways that our communities have chosen to celebrate and create traditions, giving glimpses into the experiences of our revolutionary forms of joy. Winter Motherland highlights Black excellence, illustrating how the African Diaspora celebrate with politics of joy and resistance.

This spectacular festival showcases our black quilting exhibit, scholar talks, performances, movie nights, hidden histores, hot cocoa bar, throughout the week. All of this is situated adjacent to our ‘Buy Black’ Vendor Village’ (open Saturdays) for must have holiday gifts from local black businesses. Buy black on Black Friday! We are open 5-10pm to ensure you to get unique deals. Visit: 4519 Rhode Island Avenue, North Brentwood MD 20722. www.pgaamcc.org/wintermotherland

Save the date for the hottest Holiday Party in Prince George’s County! Winter Motherland’ Holiday Day Party, Friday December 6th from 2-5pm. Tickets include food, drink, community awards and musical performances and festivities.
